Late last year, we discussed how when done the right way to run an effective nonprofit job training program, and the benefits of doing so. If your clients’ non-profit or social services agency does decide to run a job training program however, it’s imperative that they understand the risks that are involved. They can always financially prepare themselves with the right Social Services Insurance policy, but additionally they should take whatever steps they can to reduce their risk exposures. So what are these risks?

Risk #1: Employees Could Receive False/Outdated Information

Whenever a job training program is implemented, it’s important to have a set of job standards to instruct from. Whether your job training program continues throughout the year or is at certain intervals, the trainer(s) should regularly check in with a subject-matter expert for review in order to ensure accuracy.

Risk #2: Training Tools and Equipment Add Additional Costs and Exposures

The extra up-front costs of equipment and tools could actually save the company money in design and development costs. However, if it’s not possible to provide equipment for training-only purposes, and if the risk of doing so is too high, another option is to have the trainee(s) use their own equipment.

Risk #3: The Trainer Must Put Other Tasks on Hold to Train; Thus Creating a Potential Business Interruption.

This is an unavoidable situation; however it doesn’t have to be seen as a negative. If done right, the employee(s) receiving the on-the-job training shouldn’t need as much extra help from the trainer as an inexperienced person just getting hired on would need. Proper time management and employee management should help employers to avoid a business interruption.
