Why Should Non Profit Businesses Go Mobile?

The simplest answer to the question of why nonprofit businesses should go mobile is because customers expect it. The customers that are served by your client are already in the modern age, even if the nonprofit organization is not. The expectation is that mobile solutions will always be available to consumer’s needs; this could be in the form of a responsive website designed specifically for mobile, or a dedicated smart phone app designed to serve as an ecommerce site for the nonprofit.

Andrew Olsen, CFRE and vice president of ad agency Russ Reid and contributing writer to The NonProfit Times states that it appears nonprofits have reached a tipping point when it comes to the use and utilization of mobile sites. He cites evidence from an eMarketer chart that shows how U.S. search volume has shifted significantly from desktops to mobile devices.

Olsen goes on to mention how a year-over-year digital trend data chart complied from a group of nonprofits in the last two years shows the following statistics:

  • 35% increase in web traffic going to mobile devices
  • 42% increase in donations made to nonprofits from mobile devices
  • 28% increase in revenue generated via mobile device transactions.

As Olsen states, these are not small shifts. He finalizes his point by revealing that new research shows that 50% of all mobile users have completely abandoned a brand based on a poor mobile experience.

With statistic and data such as this, it’s easy to see why nonprofit businesses should go mobile. Of course, whether or not your client decides to utilize this growing mobile trend, they need to have appropriate financial protection.
